Probably because those playing airsoft have interests other than just having a good time. Personally I don't like those who take it too seriously, ie strict attention to uniforms and other such details, at the end of the day what you're wielding couldn't take out an enemy soldier if you stuck the barrel in his throat and tried to choke him with BBs - it's a toy, and airsoft is a game, if you want anything more than that join the army.
On the other hand, I do enjoy the "masochistic" element of airsoft, as well as the honour system whcih makes the sport all the more "gentlemanly", so to speak

That's what I'm talking about airsoft is a good way to test one's honour, sportsmanship and responsibility. If anyone knows about the Aussie tennis player Lleyton Hewitt, he goes bonkas when he loses his match. Thats the same with airsoft, like you said people who take it too seriously and goes bonkas because of losing is like any other sport.
Oh well airsoft won't be around where I live for a while so to a paintball field!
It's Nerf or Nothing.
Don't start crying when I play this as my hobby, Paintball, Airsoft and Nerf are equally good hobbies, except you can play Nerf in public. Good day! Hmph!

The only downside to airsoft (my opinion(i expect people to disagree)) is that people get really ocd about it. They buy 1300 dollar guns (Barret replicas or mod deuce replicas), build uber vehicles (I must admit, these are cool), and make ridiculous rules and regulations.

Well, another thing is: airsoft has variety.
In airsoft you can snipe, use machine guns, assault rifles, etc. That may sound aesthetic, but what do you want. Variety allows for appeal to more people.

you all have your own opions but here are some good facts about airsoft. Airsoft has more relistic guns because the gun modles look like real guns and in airsoft you are sopoused to play Mil-Sim (meaning you dress up like your in the military). Most guns and ammo types in airsoft are cheap but are also weak and mags for aegs only hold 30 rounds (which is realistic). Airsoft also hurts alot less... trust me. Wind does usualy alter your bbs path. BUT most of all why is this thread still on here... All it is going to do is cuase fights.

It's less likely to cause a fight if people don't keep bringing it up from the forum's bowels by posting in it.
Go. Now consider the irony of your own post.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Well, I have never played an actual organized game of airsoft, but I just went paintballing yesterday and I had a blast. I dont know about some of the other people on this site, but I have a high threshold for pain. Paintballing doesnt hurt that much unless you get hit in the hands. (I HATE getting hit in the hands) On the airsoft side of things, like I said, I havent played officially. Me and my friends just usually mess around in our basement and do crazy stuff. My opinion is with paintball on this one probably because I havent really done airsoft.

Well, airsoft is exploited a lot more by the Asians than Paintball, which stilll has some strong American companies as a foundation. The marketing is therefore more suited for the Anime/Manga scene as well as the uber-militarized and biker/doomsday scenario crowd. Paintball traditionally is more of a mixed bag with the para-military meets sci-fi/motocross look going. Besides, some of the Yakuza you play with probably would whip out the switchblade or throwing stars if you shot them too hard. (kidding?)

Rawr!! I find that somewhat offensive cause I'm asian, nah kidding, though not kidding that fact I'm asian, I thought this thread was suppose to do die, because it's somewhat pointless. It's just people ranting on how crap paintball / airsoft is and the other choice is better :S.
Oh well I want airsoft in Australia rawr!!
