Thanks Jack, in my combat flight simulater I use the Focke Wulf 190 the most. The only problem they realy have is on take off, throttle up to fast and they flip over right in there tracks. Makes for a quick death, the rockets detanate every time.

Wow Jack...I just can't help thinking you like weapons...
Who would have guessed?
Great addition to the site and just plain inspiring stuff...
I confused the 88 with the SWAT cannon for a minute....or two...

Little Boy was the second atomic bomb detonated, but the first one dropped on Japan.
And what the hell did they have in WWI that could haul a 1,650 pound bomb?
neat photos Jack.

Stupid quote of the now:
joestue "The chamber is rated to 100 psi, it don't say that on the side, but the 2 inch stuff is rated to 300, so by analogy..."
"only the last two feet hear the end is black cellular core"
"I'm taking it to 300 psi"

I suspect that when you said "active armor" you meant "reactive armor."starman wrote:Much MORE armour, much better armour, slanted surfaces, active armour, invisible force field...[really....no, not REALLY... 8) ] not yet anyway...
That said, you are aware that active armor is starting to hit the battlefield... And it IS pretty damned close to an invisible force field!
Well.... Invisible right up to the moment it is activated.

Yup, reactive, my bad.D_Hall wrote:I suspect that when you said "active armor" you meant "reactive armor."

I know cloaking tech has been being worked on for some time now, effectively making large tanks and trucks and such mostly invisible. Have they moved that to the soldier level on the battlefield yet?

You are talking now about active systems like ARENA or THROPHY right ? I am confused
Are they one use only ?
of course offering no protection whatsoever from any follow-up shots.

If the infantry is hit by the active system, odds are the infantry was already as good as dead... When that missile hits the tank, it DOES send all sorts of nasties in more than one direction (even if the brunt of it is only in one direction).jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:... to the detriment of any nearby infantry, and of course offering no protection whatsoever from any follow-up shots.

That's what I'm talking about, yes.
They're single use for a threat from a given direction, but so what? If you make the bad guy use two missiles for every kill you've just halved the number of tanks he can kill. In the same breath, it also gives you a chance to zap him before he can take that second shot. Are they one use only ?
To dismiss such armor simply because it doesn't have follow up capability from a single azimuth is extremely short sighted at best.

DROZD (earlier version of ARENA) was used in Afganistan by Soviets and it proved to have 80% efectivness against RPGs but they discontinued to use it becasue of collateral dammage to their own troops..... but yeah what D_hall said is right
however I would like to know if they are one use only ?

Not dismissing it, if it does work even once I would be more than happy to have ERA hanging from my tank - coincidentally I'm reading this book at the moment, giving some insight as to how horrible it is to be inside a stricken tank - but it certainly isn't the best solution.D_Hall wrote:To dismiss such armor simply because it doesn't have follow up capability from a single azimuth is extremely short sighted at best.

Cool pics of your trip JSR 8) !
I bet some of the shoulder fired stuff today would've made about a 4-8 foot Hole in the side of that OP vehicle. (Dragon missile). It doesn't arm until 35 meters but even at that range the concussion could injure the firer.
The Javelin that replaced(ing) it is more like a ground-ground stinger and rather than wire guided, It's fire and forget.
Also the newer Javelin launches (with a bang) out to safe distance from firer, Launches up and comes down onto the TOP of armored vehicles.
Course anything powerful enough to make a hole in that type armor packs enough concussion to injure/kill the crew probably.
AT-4's (12lb. missile) And RPG's are like BB's compared to some other shoulder fired stuff. (RPG won't even damage a lot of US armor, Course they've learned to pop-up and fire directly at missile tubes TOW's and what not in like suicide tactic assualts etc.)
BTW, The M-1 Abrams has a lot of things probably still "Top Secret" About it's armor and capabilities. Gulf war 1 was the biggest tank battle ever and not one was left behind! Gulf war 2... IIRC, one even went off a bridge into river in Bagdad. Guess they'll have to come up with more "Top Secret" stuff now. 8)
