Window Air Conditioner Compressor

My uncle is giving me a window air conditioner and im planning on taking the compressor out and using it. Would this work as well as a fridge compressor? Also is it roughly the same size as a fridge compressor?

And far_cry, i get a weird feeling that your statement isnt based on any fact or personal exprerience what so ever.

Also, right now, i dont have a compressor. Im using a 12v compressor. A free air conditioner is way better than buying a whole new compressor. Also most comprssors will only go to 150 psi max. So i would be completely satisfied with 300 psi.

That is what far_cry said. And i believe it was an uneducated guess on his part.

I wont have the compressor until a few weeks but i will deffinately post my findings.

It's certainly worth trying. No clue if it'll do as well as a frig compressor. Heck, if it does as well as a standard shop compressor (120~150PSIG) then you just saved some $$$.

One thing though, in the US it is probably illegal to vent the refrigerant, especially if it's an older unit with R12 in it. Of course, if the AC unit is being discarded because it no longer works then there's a good chance it's already lost it's freon.

I would be very happy if it pumped to 150. Considering it is free and almost silent, especially compared to a shop compressor.

Also the air conditioner most certainly does work. My uncle is moving into a house with central air and no longer needs both of his window A/C's. My payment for helping him move his things is the air conditioner.

Im not sure how old it is so i wouldnt know if it has R12 in it. Im aware that it is illegal to release freon into the atmostphere, but he said he would remove the freon before giving to me. Im not sure if the means he will safely remove it, or if he will simply bleed the line in his backyard. Either way, the issue is in his hands, and i will never be in any situation with the freon.

I will be sure to keep you all posted on the matter.

i ask air conditioner technician about this thing and he told me that the max pressure you can get is 300 psi
you know thats not a refrigerator compressor so he can make low temp

I would be satisfied with 300 but i do not believe that is factual at this point.

Your just pulling things out of your arse.
Even if the MAX is 300 psi, that is still pretty high pressure for such a low price considering most shop compressors don't exceed 125 psi.

ok, well I have a fridge compressor, and it was just starting to slow down when it got to the top of my 600psi gauge. I expect it could go a crapload higher than that though.

Despite this, you have an AC pump, meaning it probably won't get the same performance, as it is meant to not make nearly the temperature change that a fridge compressor has to. still, it should get you some respectable pressures with very little noise.

I agree that it would get respectable pressures.

I dont expect it to get quite as high as a fridge compressor. But i am hoping a few hundred at least.
