The Military/Police's BBMG
I was watching Modern Marvels today and I saw this: It looks to me like its an inline vortex. Them aluminum BB's look like fun, I wonder if they are anywhere for cheap.
That model is a non lethal weapon used to stop potentially dangerous situations. It can also be used to break windows with the aluminum BB's.
Only watch the first minute if you don't want to get confused.

So what do you guys think about how its made. I can't tell what they use for the pressure vessel.
Also the part where it says, "Sorry kids, this item is not sold to the public" made me chuckle because they are moderately easy to make if you understand the principle.

they mentioned 3 moving parts...
spring, plunger and trigger?
could be an inline.. either way we have the same technology here.. wouldnt be surprised if it is..

it's just a fancy inline vortex. u think that after all that company money was spent on it's design that they would have built the compressed gas tank on the inside. the guy said that it had a magazine. it's a simple funnel fed tank of bbs. people on this forum have made better systems then that. all that corporate backing and not much to show for it. we can do the same exact thing to any airsoft gun and for much less.
at least the body looks awesome.

WHY PAY FOR IT WHEN U CAN MAKE IT?

I wonder if those aluminum bbs are available someplace?

It's been discussed here before.
It's basically a high pressure vortex or cloud BBMG made to fit in a [url
=http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ ... P%20STOCKS]Muzzlelite[/url] bullpup stock, for which the maker charges quite a bundle - if people are buying it anyway, good luck to him
Have a look at the manufacturer's website.

But why are they using alluminium bbs instead of lead ones?
Its the weight makes it lethal (at a certain velocity).

I would imagine that a vortex BBMG can only handle things of so much weight, after that, the air flows just can't chuck them around as effectively.psycix wrote:But why are they using alluminium bbs instead of lead ones?

VH_Man also has a point, they may deform, which might cause jamming.
But I imagine it's more a limit of weight.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?
A few things:
- The P3 Strafer and M134 minigun (http://www.xcalibertactical.com/product ... /index.php and http://www.xcalibertactical.com/product ... /index.php) are used for police/military less lethal force and riot control also.
http://www.xcalibertactical.com/news/index.php#06-13-08
- this should take you to a CNN report video. Fast forward to a little more than half-way through
A lot of people seem to have it out for P3, but I've personally fired the Strafer, and it's a blast.
- You can also buy steel bbs on that page (above) near the very bottom of the page.
The only difference is that they weigh more. (.88g instead of .3g like in the link Davidvaini posted)
Or you can simply google "aluminum airsoft bbs"
The weight does matter. Heavier bbs carry more kinetic energy, ergo they hurt more.

As is any other $15 homemade BBMG, there isn't much of a difference in terms of effect on target, though it's undeniably more attractive and doubtless more sturdily made than most BBMGs I've seen.
I don't understand how the Vulcan is being promoted for law enforcement use. It is mechanically more complex than a cloud/vortex type strafer, and therefore less reliable, heavier and ridiculously expensive - while offering no significant difference in performance.
There is of course the "cool" factor of rotating barrels, but that's not worth thousands of dollars of taxpayer's money.

All I know is that it was featured (more shown than featured) on CNN coverage of a "less lethal tech" expo. And, before I found spudfiles.com, I was looking through the vast reaches of the internet and found this while on the site that sells them:
http://www.xcalibertactical.com/news/index.php#09-01-05
The P3 weapons are also built to a seemingly higher standard. i.e. less moving parts, full metal, higher capacity hoppers, higher ROF....
They're also available for sale to the public, hence myself getting to test fire a Strafer.
I know it's kind of impractical, but it does serve its purpose just like the Strafer MK4 and the rifle originally shown in this thread. I was just simply pointing out others that are being used.
