I know I just posted a "Help Me" thing, but I put a lot of thought in to my plans and I need specific help.
Here are my plans:
Type of Cannon- Pneumatic
Chamber Size- 2"
Barrel Size- 1.5"
Gas Source - Compressed Air
Valve- 1" Sprinkler Trigger
Breech loaded - Bolt action
Bore- Smooth
Ammo- Ping Pong Ball (filled with bb's)
Fill Valve- Bicycle Tire Tube Valve
If I left anything out, please tell me. And please give me any ideas on how to improve my plans.

I say sure. There is nothing inherently wrong with and air cannon, which is all we really have to comment on right now.
Now give us a drawing or something, so we can point out what is wrong. Right now its like saying "I am going to build an airplane. It will have an engine, a shell, a pilot, steering mechanisms, wings, fuel, and passengers. What do you think?"

Ok, I don't know how to rephrase it, but do you thing my plans are pretty solid. Like do you think I'm leaving anything out or do you think I could put this together as is?

I don't see anything important missing from the "plans" if thats what you are asking. Just remember that there are thousands of ways to put these items together to make a cannon. Why not draw out your idea and post it, we can get more specific if we have more information to go by.
p.s.Does a ping pong ball fit in a 1.5 inch pipe? never tried it.
edit... new posts while I wrote this up... it is very possible. go ahead and do it.

I like to play blackjack. I'm not addicted to gambling, I'm addicted to sitting in a semi-circle.

On a forum it said that a ping pong ball would fit, but I am going to try it myself.jook13 wrote:I don't see anything important missing from the "plans" if thats what you are asking. As I said before, there is nothing inherently wrong with your theory, but until I see an actual diagram of the piping all laid out, with fittings to boot, one can not be sure.
The one bit of advice I have is to make sure that the PVC pipe you buy is NSF-PW, meaning that it is pressure rated.

I have used ping pong balls as ammo with sch40 1.5 in., so that will work.
I have a question though, do you want this to work like a shotgun? I mean do you want the bb's to scatter as they leave the barrel? If you do, then you would need to split the ping pong ball so it will come apart outside of the barrel.

I seriously doubt it will look half as slick as that scattergun you posted, but given the dimensions and assuming a long enough barrel and decent pressure, you should have a powerful shotgun in hand. Consider using something other than a ping pong ball as a sabot though, otherwise you'll have less of a shotshell and more of a Glaser slug
