Consider using something other than a ping pong ball as a sabot though, otherwise you'll have less of a shotshell and more of a Glaser slug  :D

How about using a shell that stays in the barrel(air pushes it forwards but it cant totally exit the barrel) It is filled with shot and flies out, without the ping pong ball/shell(you could use a real shotgun shell over and over again...)

This concept has been used in several weapons intended for covert use, such as the Quiet Special Purpose Revolver used in the tunnels of Vietnam - the idea is that since the sabot doesn't actually leave the cartridge, the gasses remain inside and therefore the weapon is practically noiseless without a large and bulky silencer.

Cheers Hotwired, read all about it

I wasn't really thinking of making the ammo like buckshot, but if I did i could use a toilet paper roll filled with bb's and cling wrap on each side to hold them in.
PLUS, I was going to make a stock out of a couple clothes hangers, and I was going to use cardboard paint to make it more real.

if I were u, I'd take a bout a 1 inch link of the next smallest size, glue an end cap on the bottom, make sure it fits in the barrel tight, drill out the center of a second end cap, (or glue a spacer w/ same outside diameter of the rear end cap) glue it on the front, push it into barrel then glue a spacer into the front of barrel same size as opening of hole on the "slug" yet small enough to prevent its escape from barrel, than load any thing you want into it push it down and fire!

ps you might want to rub a thin layer of lube inside barrel to the "slug" will slide smooth while keeping a seal. you may also want to drill small exaust holes in bottom of slug.

You have to post more. Double posting isn't allowed here I suggest you read the rules.

To your above post

I think whatever your using to hold in the slug will brake within a couple shots when using something so heavy. You have to consider it has the same velocity has what your firing so that slamming into a reducer or whatever is going to shatter it with high enough pressure.

you raise a good point about the breaking, this could be solved by taking a steel tube that slips tight over the barrel, weld a 1/8 inch thick washer on the end lightly sand inside of steel tube and out side of barrel, clean dust away, rub barrel w/ damp cloth and spread thin layer of gorilla glue. the barrel an the stop will be indestructible after the glue fully cures.

You have to post more. Double posting isn't allowed here I suggest you read the rules.

sorry, I forgot

I really don't think that thing is really necessary. Instead of the heavy pvc contraption a dixy cup or homemade aluminum foil cup should work fine. If you insist on not having the sabot come out load in dixy cup or whatever and then put on a reducer. That way if your going to shoot something bigger say a potato it doesn't have to be super small.

I agree, that would just overcomplicate things. Correct me if I'm wrong but sounds like you want a simple shotgun without a lot of fuss. I actually built some thing similar to what you probably want. I made a gun w/ 1 inch tubing that is fairly simple and strait forward, I never thought of loading shot in to it. If interested in build plans let me know and I will up load a how to. :D

I'm not really interested in building something like this... I was just pointing out how to simplicate things a little.

P.S.
I know the word is simply I just like simplicate better. 8)

The proposal you have with a ping pong ball filled with BBs might work, but I think a more efficient way to create a shotgun scatter would be to use tissues to hold the BBs.

I could do it:

http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/b2tb-sa ... 14817.html

On my way to building a smaller one powered by 12 gram's.
Not for noobs anyway.

I'll go for the curved handle in stead of the pistol grip this time...

All you need is a lot of bondo and imagination...and the parts of course...
