well then, i've finally gotten around to posting my first cannon :D definitely could have been put together better and it needs a paint job but hey, it shoots.

the piston is actually inside a 1 1/2" pipe which i fit into the end of the chamber by wrapping it with painters tape and hammering it in. now that the 2" s/t fitting is glued on it's stuck in there for good. the piston itself was made by wrapping painters tape(and some packing tape) around a 1 1/4" pipe which i filled halfway with red silicone(makes a great sealing face). barrel is two and a half feet of 3/4" cpvc pipe. i'm using a presta valve and bike pump(70psi max :( ) to fill it and a 1/4" ball valve for the pilot.

a few pics:

whole thing-

blowgun dart shot with a sabot. it went about an inch into the wood.

overall as a first attempt i'm fairly happy with it and the experience gained from building it. now all i need to do is stop buy lowes and buy the stuff for something better

Looks very good for a first cannon. I'd inquire as to why that front bushing sticks so far out, though.

Overall good job!

thank you

 it fit in there fine when i put the gun together before actually gluing it but with the primer and glue it didn't go very far before getting stuck like that. i'm not too worried about it coming apart at 70psi but i put some epoxy on it regardless, better safe than sorry.

this is the first gun i've made and most definitely not my last

no more pictures yet but i was out shooting it earlier today and paintballs are doing a lot more damage than the potato slugs i was shooting which varied in size from 3/4" to 1 1/2" long. i was kind of surprised when they turned into mashed potatoes hitting a 1/8" piece of plexi glass i had laying around. i was getting a little disappointed with the power until i put a good sized hole in it with a paintball. now i just need to try that tabasco sauce bottle on something...

I spy a DWV coupling. If not, the bushing isn't in there very deep at all.

The couplers fine, it's just the bushing is only in about half way, which is as, if not more, unsafe.

very nice gun for your first build.

one question though:

why did you decide to place the pressure guage towards the muzzle of the gun and not near the butt?

thanks for the compliments(and repeatedly pointing out the coupler  )

as for the pressure gauge being where it is, i wanted to put it somewhere that had two layers of pvc and since the piston is in the end i decided to put the gauge in the front
