ITWOST I've got a new fridge compressor!! this one was taken from 30 year old fridge, which was kept outside for about 8 years...
I didn't think it would function at all becasue I was told that the fridge was trown away becasue the compressor was broken... it turned out that the thing which was broken was the starting circut...
before you throw away a compressor becasue you think it's broken check resistence between the plugs (the three plugs that stick out of the compressor metal casing)
if the motor winding is burned multimeter would show you that becasue there would be no conductivity (so no reading at all).... if you get results that make sense then try testing the compressor with replaced starting circut (I'll write more about it if it's needed)
ohh well anyway... I am back in buisness again
it goes without saying but I was sending small glass spheres down range all day...

It certainly has opened up a whole range of new possibilities, I'm thinking of sleeving the chamber of my 6mm burst disk launcher with something stronger. If I could get a near supersonic airsoft BB at 400 psi, with double that the sound barrier might just be within reach

@JSR
I'd love to have it but.... how much did you pay for it.... ?
I admit that a fridge compressor taken from a 30 year old fridge isn't as impressive as a pic of a brand new HPA setup but I don't think that I (and quite a lot of others) can afford to switch to HPA...
for your guns it might be ok... but for guys using PVC or high pressure 'marble' sized launchers it's waaaay too expensive
the first fridge compressor had enough flow to let me fill my ghetto tank (~8 meters of 1.5" pipe IIRC) to 100 psi in about 10 minutes....
today I converted my gun to a breech loading repeater and the new compressor provided enough flow to fire one marble every 15 - 20 seconds at ~ 300-350 psi..... and that's for free....
(besides I am going to buy a brand new one as soon as I can afford and turn it into a real nice and proffesional setup with cooling and stuff)
I know that portability is a nice feature but.... I preffer to spend $ on parts not on air
besides.... money has always been a problem for spudders - and I am trying to find solutions to this problem
I supposoe that someone someday will convert several fridge compressors into a HPA compressor ....
there was a guy (I don't remember his name) who achieved 1800 psi... that wasn't the safest thing to do - I admit... but there is posibility of doing it in the safe way....
EDIT (....for those who lack imagination ohhhh and sorry for starting yet another rather off-topic and longish post praising fridge compressors/spool vavles and stuff - I just can't resist - but notice that I have serious problems with it )
even now you can up the pressure a little in a relativelly safe manner by supplying pressurised air to the air inlet.... I suppose that 800 - 1000 psi is achievable (and it can be done in a relatively safe manner)
get my point.... ? just get a CO2 FE and fill it up to 1000 psi... add a reg and voila - you've got a cheap portable setup...

Hmm, would several fridges hooked up in series or parralel give you higher pressures, safely?

yes and no
they would give more pressure but it wouldn't be safe
the casing is quite strong becasue it's pressurised when it is a part of a fridge... noramally the pressure is about 60 psi IIRC (there is some info on it in one of the threads but finding it would take some time)
but I don't think it's strong enough to handle pressures generated by another firdge compressor (so in other words higher than 10 bar - in fact most fridge compressors have some sort of info on them reffering to this 'pressure tested up to 1Mpa (10 bar)' or something similar - from what I know this reffers to pressure rating of the case )
you can hook up a regged air from a regular/shop compressor to the air inlet and this will increase pressure output
if copper pipes on a fridge compressor are strong enough to handle whatever the output pressure you want to use there shouldn't be much danger
the other parts are enlosed inside the case - so if the pressure created inside those parts is 50 bar and the case is pressurised to 10 bar then the pressure differential (pressure that is acctually acting on them) is 50 - 10 = 40 bar
if the parts can handle that - I am not saying they do - there shouldn't be any problems

It was maggotman who did the bunch of fridgies.
I have two projects sloshing around in my brain, an advanced combustion with the works and a vortex pistol that uses 88 gram c02 and has magazines.

It was less than seventy bucksincluding postage to Europe, so not that bad. Of course if you add the cost of my SCUBA tank and the adapter and hose to fill it with I guess it will get a bit expensive. In my case though the opportunities offered by going 500 psi+ are worth it.POLAND_SPUD wrote:@JSR

ITWOST, I cast a magic new part. It was around 150g of a zinc aluminum alloy, melted in a tuna can over charcoal with extra air provided by a dual action air mattress pump, with the second "action" broken. mold was a mix of plaster and sand. the mold broke while removing the original part, and it was repaired with more plaster. this was my first casting.
who can guess what it is and what is for???

I'm guessing piston (like Carlman) or vortex block.
ITWOST: Found a store I like mostly better than Home Depot.
Harbor Frieght!!! (Seen the catalog but had not been to a walk -in store yet)
They have (something like) 7000psi gauge for like 12$ (liquid filled though).
Two part epoxies (and generic), $3 air blowers, I noticed 2 pistol shaped sand blasters with built in hoppers on top, a $100 8 gallon compressor, various air pneumatic tools for cheap, regulators, hoses and more!!!
Been focusing solely on designing a brass blow forward bolt for high pressure, that a piston valve larger than the casing will open into.
It will probably have a 1/2" brass casing and .375 or 3/8" bore.
I found washers that fit snugly and plan on a threaded loader tube with nuts to tighten a few washers on. I plan on cutting four slots in the 1/2" back of BFB casing and attaching a thin "+" with the pin "-" (.27 or.25") to block loader tube in the middle and the piston, qev (or combustion blast) will flow around slamming the loader tube forward.
It should all fit inside a larger diameter "T" but I might build the bolt in two parts and get them to thread together tight in the reducer bushing threaded into the "T"
It's a small project that fits in a little box and lots of fine details
(my new place is small).
It's been tricky to design.
The weak point seems to be the loader tube and magazine opening.
Finally picked up my Dremel today though from other place.
Well hope that's not too much ranting for now. 8)

About high pressure tanks:
If you are willing to carry around a bit of extra weight and/or make some sort of filling mech then you should ask in aquarium shops for extra CO2 tanks. They coem in nice sized, most about 30cm long and 5-10cm wide. They are often rated to 200-250bar(3000+psi) and can be picked up for free. Maybe I might get my self a stock pile of them and sell them on ebay, or over The Files for 10-20$ a piece...

ITWOST: almost done with 150 joule coil gun pistol. Waiting for my SCR's to arrive. I fit a 30 watt boost converter in a 1inch cube.
Unrelated, I am working on a big tesla coil (DRSSTC) I should get atleast 10 foot sparks.

mate ebay i can justify but why would we buy them for any cash amount when we can just go get them for free?john bunsenburner wrote: ...and can be picked up for free...

Well if you can get them for free thats great of coarse but i am not sure if every one can, thats why i might offer that.
Not all shops are willing to give them for free, nor does every one here have an aquarium shp close by(and jsr most probably only has those with epoxy filled aquariums and no fish ergo no CO2, you know how they are down in epoxy land...)
