My first pneumatic
About 25 years ago I bought a blow gun (lung powered dart gun) and had a lot of fun with it. Then I had this great idea of applying high pressure air to it. Nobody I knew had thought of this or seen anything like it. I had no internet (there was probably no internet at that time) so i was on my own. Anyway this is what I came up with. Just thought id post this as an oddity. Something to make you laugh or ponder... why?
Actually I was very impressed. I could hit a notebook paper at 150 feet consistently. I would then have to pull the dart out of the back board with pliers. I don't know what air pressure I was using but I do know I was doing a lot of pumping with those huge chambers. This thing leaked like a colander too.
The barrel is breach loading (high tech stuff there eh?) and the blow gun is modified.
I intend on taking the barrel off of this thing and making a much improved all metal gun with what I've learned on spud-files.

HAHA! Holy huge air chamber!
I am having a hard time seeing what kind of valve this thing has, what is that?
I am looking forward to your next improved cannon.

Oh my God, this is as ghetto as it gets and I Like It!
I am also curious on what kind of valve it is...
And I want to a see a video of this bad boy at work, if it still works...

That looks like an old blowgun (not the barrel, the valve).
I like it though. It doesn't take much to get those blow gun darts moving fast.
Its ironic that you would put a pump on it for portability. This gun looks rather bulky and cumbersome.

Yes that's just an old blowgun with the finger lever taken off.
The chambers are 2 liter pepsi bottles. They warped when I painted them. They have also been getting banged around in the shed for years.

I'm usually not much in to "ghetto" but this thing is great....especially considering it was constructed before the day of man-on-the-street knowledge of pneumatic guns.

That's a monstrously cool thing. Overly bulky and silly, but so cool. If you're gonna keep using it after all this time then put on some new chambers and maybe ball valves after each chamber for 2 shots a fill.
Very cool
Very cool

If mad max had a blowgun, this would be it
but yeah, have a look around the site, there's a lot of refining to be done.
The massive volume means a lot of wasted effort, I would suggest a much smaller but stronger chamber that can be used with a MTB shock pump to 300-400 psi and a small quick exhaust valve. You'll be amazed by the difference in performance.

Not bad for a small calibre.covey12 wrote:so how well does using a blowgun for a valve work?
To wngovr's credit though, he got better

A newt?
