Penatrating rounds
That packing foam (polysterine) is not good, all though it would make a really good sabot it is hard to shape. I will try the foam from a pool noodle(floating aid for babies/kids). I have made a good dart but I broke my 32mm barrel , I will have to make smaller darts.
Forever dreaming...

Make a sabot for the nail. try bondo.
My ammo of choice is a bicycle peg. filled with silicone. with 2 layers of tape around edge. Its like a non explosive artillery shell. It kills bricks.

Why not just get a projectile with a little mass and tons of velocity? I'm punching holes through 2" of osb with a 2" blunt caulking tube.......

In my 1/4 inch barrel i shoot fondue skewers perfectly they will go through 1/2 inch ply, well everything but the damn handle its still good ammo.. oh and for short range target shooting get a bbq skewer(bambo stick pointy as hell) and wrap some ductape in the middle for a tight fit.
