Well, now that you mention it, I did think about adding a gyroscopic stabilizer.

i'd love to see that. i've seen all your slingshots (i think, there's a lot of them) but have you ever put more than one pair of hangers to tie the bands? to have more than one type of band at the same time in the same slingshot. a powerful one and a slimmer easier to aim in the same slingshot.

Joerg, what you need is a platinum pro series plus package with integrated on-board lithium stabilized groove and a nylon support structure to accompany the graphite reinforced handle that has a gyro stabilized counter sync mechanism.

once you have done that, you should make a hand held ballista, that would be pretty sweet.

Have you considered Iron bands, and a nuclear fission plasma generator for the powering?

Not yet, but I am thinking about rubber Viagra, to make the bands stiffer!

Also, a slingshot that can travel back and forth in time just one second would be great. YOu can check out to where your target moves BEFORE you shoot!

So many ideas, so little time...

Hello,

I wanted to take the self centering design with hinges into a different direction today - the goal was to create a model that is very lightweight and fits well in a backpack.

First, I replaced the massive 12 mm stainless steel rods with 12 mm steel tubes. That stuff is a lot lighter, but of course less solid. So I had to give up the "W" form and go back to a classical "Y" design. This necessarily means that the super low fork of the "W" has to be given up some, you simply add 12 mm fork height. Still, a low fork is possible.

Next, I chose much smaller ball bearings, from RC controlled model cars. This allowed me to use a much thinner aluminum tube as a grip.

I kept the hinges because of the band life and also because they make the slingshot easier to be stowed away.

It works! The last "W" model weighs 800 gramms (almost two lbs), this one is just 200 gramms! 75% lighter.

I still prefer my full blown "W", but this self centers just as good and maybe the slightly higher fork has a psychological advantage for those who are afraid to hit their hand.

Wrapped the thin grip in nice, thick rope. I like it!

Excellent slingshot :D .

I really like the rope-wrapped grip.

Can you tell us more about how you made it?

Yep. I'd shoot that thing, what with my hand all nice and out of the way. Good job Jorg. What kind of machine are you using to weld the fork onto the piece that comes down into the handle? MIG? TIG?

Since this is for backback use, why not something like this where the slingshot is part of a knife sheath?

You could also add two prongs to a knife handle :)

Nothing needs to be said....

It's obviously designed to be held up and slowly waved at music concerts. What band are you going to see?
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.
