australia is pretty terrible for spudding really.. if you don't have the right kind of neighbours it can be risky business just building and testing one, and people ask alot of questions sometimes when buying parts for one sometimes. then there's the matter of transporting it to a field or wherever, if you get pulled over for an RBT you're kind of screwed.

that said, i think a fair amount of cops would turn a blind eye seeing it sitting in your garage or something, so long as there hadn't been any complaints or you weren't doing anything stupid with it/ being a smart alec to them.

We had a cop here who saw my aluminum co-ax and inquired about it. He had a fair idea what it was, but didn't really care- "I'll take it that it's only a scientific research instrument?".

I agree to DYI, the guy caused it himself. To be honest he might of been lucky in the sense that there was a fair enough chance of him getting hurt...

The link wouldn't work so I don't know what was written, but from what i gather he had a bit of a stash at home as well, that is not the smartest idea either...

As for getting pulled over, avoid large roads, or cars all together if your gun is small enough to carry in a non-suspicious container, never heard of pedestrians or bikers carrying a guitar case, or a back pack getting pulled over...

Dumb f*$k for getting caught, but i still feel sorry for him. However, the cops are not to blame.

Australian police are a lot smarter and cunning than you give them credit for. It's not a matter of avoiding large roads. They will often setup on small roads generally used to avoid RBT's after people have spent a night drinking. It's not a matter of avoiding them.

Just having it stowed away and not acting suspiciously would be the way to go. Hell, some guns could be broken down into a few threaded couplings and be "parts to fix up the plumbing".

Why not a rifle bag? I dont think the police would stop you if there was something like "DIANA air rifles" written on the bag.
But they would stop you if you were to walk around with a gun strapped to your back with a sling. And I know that from my own ecperience :D

Yeh, unless you're in say..Australia. If your carrying a rifle bag in your car and they see it they will be suspicious. Unless of course you're on/heading to a farm (going to shoot small innocent animals).
