i am making a cannon with interchangeable barrels for different bore sizes. i know the cannon will be less efficient as the chamber to barrel ratio will increase if the barrel length is the same. as i asked in another topic it was basically concluded that this would not significantly impair range or power. are there any other negative side effects of reducing barrel diameter. if i make barrels that are small (say a half inch ID) to go on a gun designed for optimal performance with a 2 or 2.5" barrel are there significant negative or dangerous effects?

thanks in advance

There aren't any that i know of...

A guy on here (technician1002) was going to do a study on preformance comparison between say a 1" barrel shooting a 1" bearing or a 2" barrel shooting a 1" bearing with wadding... Both barrels being the same length...

I'm not sure if he ever did that... If so i missed it...

The 1" bearing in a 2" barrel will have far greater power. Accuracy might go down the drain a bit though.

As for the original question;
There shouldn't be any dangerous effects as long as the projectile doesn't have a chance of jamming in the barrel. If you wanted to shoot a 1" ball from a 1" barrel, you would get better performance if you just leave the 2" barrel on and use a sabot or wadding.
