Here is the video:

Unbelievable, the .63" (16 mm) lead ball went through the cat food can filled with water, then on through 40 cm of ballistic gelatine...

As a bonus, I also fired some other crossbows and the boncrushers through the gel.

Enjoy!

Yep :) a comparison comes to mind but not repeatable in polite company :D

Very impressive Joerg, it would be good to see a group of shots fired at a paper target (from rest) to see what sort of accuracy you're getting.

Also I notice cat food tin, but no cats evident... had you run out of gelatin :D

Life is about balance.

After presenting a brutal, ugly, frightening slingshot crossbow today, I needed to make its counterpart.

A humble, basic, pleasing frame.

I chose moor oak for the wooden part, sunken for 2000 years in airless depths. It got resurrected, and then turned into a slingshot!

The wood is very dark, and also very lightweight. I had to strengthen it with stainless steel to give it back the sturdyness it once had. 12 mm!

The wood "skin" has 2 mm walls, that is all.

I left the handle a bit rectangular towards the end (the "butt"). I like it that way! I will shoot it in the index+thumb-on-the-fork style.

The polished steel and the dark wood are very pleasing to my eyes. It is very smooth. Again, the wood is natural, no staining, no coating.

How do you like it?

Wow. Another amazing one... Do you weld together the center piece? It looks so smooth I wasn't sure...

Yes, welded, then smoothed. I must say I am getting rather good with the welding gear.

This is a 48" Aluminum clamp with stops every inch.

The fork is fixed and the Theraband silver tubing will be a single piece coming from underneath and over the pulleys.

The trigger mechanism will be attached to the sliding block.

A foot stirrup may be added to the fork and a pair of draw handles to the trigger to enable a 2 handed draw.

BTW The 48" clamp is on sale for $8.99 at Harbor Freight.

(I removed the fixed clamp end with the screw mechanism)

Stu, I hope that the locking is strong enough for Thera Tube Silver. Be careful, should something break then the rod will be on its way in your direction.

Also stock up on heavy lead balls. The Thera Tube Silver needs that to maximize power if you use it as a direct energy source without any transmission or air compressor.

It is not very fast on the retraction, so lightweight bullets won't do any good. Heavy stuff works well, though.

Shot it yesterday. This is too much fun!

Distance is 14 meters, I leaned the "barrel" against the door frame. Shot 10 rounds first, then put another target (air rifle size) over the first one. So we have one target with 10 and one with 20 hits.

Ammo was 15 mm steel, and I used "hunterbands" (two Thera Gold per side, 3cm x 2cm x 18cm effective band size).
