6 barrel minigun design

what about 6 fixed barrels? would that work?

The multiple barrels on modern gatling guns are because of the heat.

One of the main reasons for the resurgence is the tolerance for high-volume fire. For example, if 2000 rounds were fired non-stop from a five-barreled Gatling gun, it would mean 400 rounds per barrel which would be acceptable. The same amount through a machine gun of the same caliber would mean 2000 rounds per (its only) barrel, resulting in overheating and probable damage.

That's very true but the Gatling gun wasn't designed with multiple barrel for that reason. They had hoppers full of ammo and as the barrels rotated, they would be constantly loaded and ready to fire when they entered the firing position. It was a simple, efficient way to acheive a high ROF.
And as for this design, Killagorilla, it looks cool and could work, but why? Why go through all the trouble and waste all that money when you could just make a single barreled simple cloud that yields an even higher ROF?

Ok I have given this alot of thought and I was recently thinking of the same thing. Its basically a revolver system. It uses a track made out of pipe or a metal track with wheels. The barrel and the chamber on a track. The barrel is on a longer track to allow compensation for the chamber also moving forward. The track is mounted etheir directly on the pipe or on a peince of ply wood. the barrel is supported by the a grip which is mounted to the track. The chamber is made by taking one sectiong of pipe and mounting it inside another and mounting smaller sections of pipe around the edges liken to the one shown in this thread: http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtop ... 356艌 . The inner tube is held in side the outer tube by two flaps made of plastic or wood and glued to the outer chamber. The chambers hold the ammo only. Which will be a hand made airsoft shell made out of rolled out of wax paper. Approx 3 in in circumference and 3 inches tall. The chamber has a handle attached to one side if the chambers wall. made out of a small section pipe and fitters. The chamber is easily sealed on each end due to that the barrel, the chamber, and the air flow pipe are reduced to the same circumfrence. The pipes are connected with two sections of fitters and secured with rubber o- rings slid over where the pipes connect. Firing procedure is simple. Fill tank with a compressor or bicycle pump. Push barrel and chamber forward on tracks. Load shells or whatever ammo you chose into the chambers. Align chambers slide chamber in to airsource tube. Silde o O-rings. Slide barrel into chamber. Slide down Orings on barrel fitter. Release valve and FIRE!!!. I can't draw digitally well very yet. I don't know much about valves so maybe you guys could suggest a type that would work well for this design. This could easily made into a multibarrel by just replacing the sigle barrel and extending the revolving chambers into barrels
I am open for any criticism so bring it on.

oh well i tried this, shot 8 metres with no strength... what will i do to waste my time now?

Dude, the spinning barrels have alot to do with cooling, not so much on the handcrank gatling guns of the 1880's, but having 6 spinning barrels is necessary to fire at the rates of modern miniguns without melting down.daveo wrote:The spinning barrells have nothing to do with cooling them! for 1, each barrel has 6x the cooling time,
and for 2, the spinning creates massive airflow to cool the barrels

a vortex block would be better than a cloud however it would have to be timed with the motor so it fires with the barrel

it really could work if you think about it but it would be really hard... and it would have to have the same concept as a real gatling gun....have the bbs fall from a hopper into the barrels then as they pass a fixed air port they would fire as long as there is a constant flow of air...ima try it in the next few months... if it works ill post how to make it maybe
