Ways to add a recoil system.

So for my next build, I would like to add an aesthetic recoil system, that makes the cannon look like its firing alot harder than it really is. Any ideas on what I could do to do that? I was thinking some sort of sled on springs, and when you pull the string to fire, it slams back and then pulled back up. Any other ideas that may work?

You want a recoil absorber or something to make the gun recoil harder?
I used a recoil absorber for my hybrid...

Something to make it recoil harder. I was thinking maybe a reverse muzzle break too. That way it will force the cannon back a little bit more.

Why not just make a more powerful launcher even a small calibre hybrid has plenty of recoil.

Jack, its going to be a 3" bore, 7' long barrel. Its gonna be big enough as it is, just need the added effect of recoil.

What valve are you using, what projectile are you shooting and at what pressures?

I can understand wanting to make a recoil system like an 88—I would personally fall in love with such a gun—but if this is going to be handheld or fired from the ground I don't see the point.

i have a handheld gun and i want a recoil system too, i mean who wouldnt want a 50 cal recoil on their gun. Usually shooting denser projectiles helps a lot

Probably someone who never fired a 50BMG. 50bmg produces about 57% more muzzle energy than the 600 nitro express shown in the video.

Shoot bigger heavier projectiles. If you have access to a lathe, you could make something like the Mini Boy, but much bigger.

I'd just make a normal, 'weak' recoil system, then make everything on the gun as light as possible. Use the heaviest projectile you can.
Long ago I was shooting lead slugs from a combustion, which weighed only six times more than the slugs. The recoiled from this was very significant, since I was absorbing ~1/6th of the gun's muzzle energy (equal and opposite reaction/conservation of momentum).

The nitro-express has such a massive kick because there's not as much difference between the projectile's mass and the gun's mass. A .50 cal rifle with a recoil absorber can be shouldered without too much effort, since it's heavy.

Well, this is no where near hand held... Its going to be a 3" or so bore, and 7' long barrel. Going for a howitzer look. This is going to a milsim team, JROTC for that matter, around here, and they want it as close to the real thing as possible. Launching the average nerfs, possible howlers since they make a huge amount of noise. I was thinking a big 3" ball or butterfly valve, for max airflow with it being as close to real as possible (the pulling on the string part at least...) and that dumps the entire chamber right into the barrel. It would be inline, so no reason for the air flow to be blocked or choked or anything. I need it to recoil as much as possible though.

That's the point. I need it to recoil as much as possible, but I won't get much recoil from a foam projectile...
