hello people, i am brand new to the forum and i never seen a spud gun in action before. i am a 30 year old guy who is disabled and i am always looking for new hobbys. i ordered a spud gun the other day, a combustion gun. my question is if i fire it in my back yard. something soft not a potato at first. is it going to be really loud? like loud enough to get my neighbors mad. what should i expect when i shoot something? i have a pretty big yard. what can the sound be compared to? a m-80, a fire cracker?....... any info would be a great help. just so i have an idea of what to expect.
thanks for any help in advance

i would go to a farm or a cliff to shoot it for the first time and fire potatoes out in the water or whatever
its probably not as loud as an m-80 but more scary because u r holding it

well i dont know how big the gun is, but i agree with aaron, u shuld go somewhere very open and fire it a few time so u know what its capable of before u shoot it in town and as far as sound, i highly doubt it will be as loud as a M-80 unless its a fairly good sized gun.

you can probably expect something around the sound of a 20 gauge shotgun, mine is quieter but it is a mini, my big one hasnt had a projectile in it yet, but the dry fires with propane are loud. if you start getting into big chambers like 6" and up you probably will have the cops called on you becasue of the noise, my neighbors dont care and they like seeing my guns so i can fire in town

For my first shot i rested the but of the cannon on teh ground, so i would know what type of recoil, noise etc. to expect. Well good luck.
Where did you order the cannon from.

I would guess that depending on the size of your gun, it would be between an m-80 to a ten guage shotgun. Mine is pretty loud. I know this because my nighbors two blocks down could hear it.

my gun has a 4"x 18" chamber and a 2"x60" barrel and you can't even hear it inside my house when someone shoots it outside. I'll stand on my porch and shoot it, come back in and my parents will ask if I forgot something. does this sound unusual?

hmm, you might be getting a weak mix, try less or more fuel, a gun of that size should be making a very loud report with the right sized barrel

i agree with spudshot, a gun that big should be very loud, mine is about the same size chamber (4"x24") and its loud as hell.

I have a chamber fan to insure a better mixture so I don't think it would be a mixture thing. I also get pretty good range too. I'm probobly averaging 350-400 yrd. with golfballs. When you guys shoot yours is it like, you need earplugs loud, or just like, it makes you shrug a little, loud?

thanks

Nick

well, i shoot shotguns without ear plugs, so i would judge mine's about as loud as a 20 gauge, and it only has a 2x9" chamber, the ratio is a lil screwy, but its not that bad

First shot, put it against the ground and see if it's safe, second shot hold it and feel the recoil, third shot and beyond look for the best fuel mix. that is how i did mine
