Flintlock style pistol with spring loaded ball valve

Started to build a flintlock stylie pistol with a spring loaded ball valve.

1/4" threaded ball valve with 1/4" ID barrel and 3/4" stainless tubeing for the chamber. I drilled a hole in the side of the valve as a loading point, then realised that some air would leak out as the ball rotates, was thinking the BB might shoot out the top instead of down the barrel, but it actually works. Put a spring on it and 100psi for some test shots, it was pretty impressive

Locking and release mechanism will be the fun bit

How much air pressure do you think you use? How many cm3 of capacity is the air chamber? So what system is filled with air?

I can take it up to 160psi with my compressor, I might try a schrader valve as I have a shock pump that goes up to 300psi. I think about 70cm3 in the 3/4" chamber, 19mmD x 250mm long. There is a 1/8"npt thread at the front of the chamber, you can't see it in the picture.

It looks good !! Your old pistol has inspired me to conclude a small, non-autonomous hybrid pistol that I had unfinished, just to test it. I already put what I built in a new post :bounce:

Looking good! Spring loaded ball valves are definitely a fast and relatively easy solution for small calibers that is often overlooked.

Started to shape the grip from 10mm gold anodized aluminium. That was 1 hours work

Worked out a Rube Goldberg set up to lock and release the valve.

Got a schrader tire chuck to mount on the bench and charge it for each shot, if the valve doesn't leak

Drilling a hole in one side won't help as it now only has one seal face instead of two, but if it works the reload will be pretty nice

unless I make some kind of sealed cap that covers the hole and braze it on to the valve
