In Australia any homemade weapon is classed as a prescribed firearm and requires the same licence as such things as machine guns, SMG's, grenade launchers etc. Theoretically, someone with either a Class A or Class B firearms licence could have a registered gunsmith build them a spudgun if they had a legitimate reason for owning one.

I'm pretty sure spudguns are classified as weapons, I mean think about, an airsoft gun that isn't bolt action is either classified as a prescribed firearm or a Class H (pistol).

You can't get a licence for them, so unless you are a gunsmith or you want to pay a gunsmith to make one for you and then get the appropriate licence you just make and shoot.

I found out the other day that Spudguns are classed in the same cattegory as a Gunpowder cannon in oz!

I reckon all guns and weapons should be legal including spudguns but a license should be essential to stop dumbasses from accessing them. I think current gun laws are appropriate, including those for paintball markers. One exeption should be made however for spudguns as they are as big a hobby as many gun enthusiasts deem their firearms. I mean firing a gun at a rifle range is all good but successfully building one is so much more rewarding. I for one don't just build to destroy, I enjoy the challenges and physics involved in creating one, and even if I don't end up making it, I still have fun. So come on whoever create the laws and what not, let us have spudguns!!!! (with a license of course)
