Franchement j'adore le concept avec le système tout en un il à l'air très efficace mais alors c'est génial pas besoin de disque de rupture il à l'air assez puissant en plus

The retention to seal the small explosion chamber is provided by an O-ring, tightened by the male thread of the barrel, which enters the female thread of the chamber. When tightened, the O-ring is compressed as necessary to reduce the internal diameter. This is the necessary regulation so that the shot does not escape during the compression phase, but allows the ball to escape when the pressure increases when it explodes. After much thought, he was of the opinion that this system is good for short weapons, where simplicity of operation is more important than the energy of the shot.

Great thread! I’ve been tinkering with potato cannons for a while and thought I’d share my two cents. For fuel mixtures, I’ve found that propane offers more consistency than hairspray, especially if you use a metering system to control the mix (around 4-5% propane-to-air ratio works well for me). Just be sure to ventilate the chamber properly to avoid misfires.

As for durability, PVC barrels can wear down over time—switching to ABS or reinforced materials helps if you’re going for higher pressures. And don’t skimp on the O-rings for sealing; a small leak can really kill performance.

Safety-wise, always wear eye protection and check local laws. Some areas have strict rules about muzzle energy or projectile materials.

Looking forward to hearing others’ experiences!

Great discussion so far! Based on my experience building pneumatic launchers, I’d recommend upgrading to a 1-inch sprinkler valve for better airflow versus the standard ¾-inch. The performance jump is noticeable, especially with larger projectiles.

For safety:
• Always use schedule 40 PVC (never thin-wall)
• Consider adding a burst disk as a fail-safe
• Wear ANSI-rated goggles during testing

Would love to see your pressure test results—have you tried using a bike pump with a gauge for more precise control?
