My mini hybrid,uncompleted.

This is my mini hybrid and my first hybrid cannon.It is still in a stage of construction,but the only things required are a good ingition source and a shrader valve for adding the compressed air.

The gun sports at the moment propane injection a chamber fan a union for the burst disks.The majority cannon is made of PN18 pipe the barrel is PN12.The chamber is 50mm and the barrel is 25mm,using a C:B ratio of .8:1.

This gun is going to be fired at 1.5X mixtures and maybe the odd 2X mixtures.

That will be great! I would like to make a hybrid but i dont trust my skills yet. Will this shoot marbles and if it does your going to have a strong gun.

Looks very good! The only problem you might run into is getting the propane pressure just right. You need to take the volume of the elbow and the plug into account. Good luck on your first test!

Did you consider building a Generation II tank for fueling before you started building? It makes fueling a hybrid a lot less picky. You can also maybe try MAPP if you get the chance/cash. It's only a little more powerful than propane in a normal combustion, but you gotta remember in a hybrid you're multilpying that margin by a bit too. I'm trying propylene and MAPP when I make a hybrid.

P.S. - ProfessorAmadeus, I don't need to worry about skills when I'm joining threaded SCH-160 pipe with fittings rated to a minimum of 3,000 PSI.

Thanks guy,and spudstuff i have metred the propane precisely,which measns i filled it with water to find the eczact volume. The propane is at 35psi because of the small chamber size,but still the metred section of pipe is only 6mL which is a nipple...

Markfh,get building because my gun will be a few weeks from completion.I probably wont be using MAPP any time soon as i cant aford it at the moment most of my cash is going towards a good ignition source.

That's a piss poor attitude when dealing with hybrids. Skills are always required, because SCH 160 may protect you, but if something else screws up, you're forked.

Confidence is another thing required when building a hybrid.

I was assuming he meant construction skills, in which my case, none are needed. Even the compression nuts I'm using are self-aligning, (which also means a higher pressure rating). All you need are two crescent wrenches and a pipe wrench.

I agree with what you mean. If you're completely clueless as to how these things work, and you overlook something small, (say, having a shut off between a low-pressure fueling tank, [Gen II.], and a high-pressure combustion chamber), you'll get a heavy plastic or metal component shot into your face at 100 FPS.

I have a quick and easy question. Is PN 18 the same as sch 80? Doesn't the 18 mean its rated to 18 bar.

Yep, I personally can only get up to pn 12 in 50mm pvc, That should be alright for a 1.5x mix?

I wouldn't skimp on the pipe,go PN18.And yes it does mean that its rated to 18bar pressure but at 1.5x mixes and 2x mixes there shouldnt be a problem with it going kaboom on be,except for out the barrel porting.

But also our pipe is rated to burst at 3times its running pressure so its quite high.

I can safely go up to 6x/6 atm mixes. This is because the lowest rated component, (a compression nut connecting the barrel to the gun), is only rated to 750 PSI. I was looking at Yor-lok fittings, (rated past 1,000 PSI), but they were only for steel tubing, when my barrel is copper.
