All metal barrel sealing gun

this is my brand new all metal gun, ive been meaning to build one for awhile just been trying to secide on a design. i came up with this, a piston housed in 2 tees.

the pressure chamber is from a CO2 system used to make sodawater so im told, i was also told that it was empty when i bought it but i decided to test it anyway just to be safe which was a good idea as it was fully charged with 250 Bars of pressure inside. im sure glad i didn't just unscrew the valve on the end of it otherwise i probably wouldn't be here now lol.

anyway its got a metre long barrel with a .4" ID which fits bolt i get from work pretty well.

i originally had a air blower to pilot the piston valve but it didn't have enough flow so i had to go with the 1/4" ball valve which sucks cause the blower would look better, oh well.

Very nice looking. I'd sure feel safe taking the pressure way up if it's all metal. Good work.

WOW! Awesome gun, what pressure do you reakon that it could handle?? Would have been scary if you hadn't tested the Co2 cylinder first

Wow. Amazingly awesome! It just so beautiful. This is a great gun. Could you get up some pictures of some damage? This looks very powerful and its soo clean. What are the pipes rated to? Even without the blow gun it looks great. Also why do you have two tees? What is your piston made out of? Does it take up most of the space in the tee?

I think the second tee is so it can be held more like a real gun. Either that or the ballvalve and the schrader wouldn't fit in the same spot. Or both.

im not sure what the pressure rating on the pipe is but im not gonna be taking it past 125psi which should be fine.

Oh you can take it higjer then that! Its probably rated near 200 psi (pulling #'s out of my ass) or higher. I have been looking for a new type of project and was getting bored of potato guns and this has inspired me to make a new copper piston gun. have you looked to see if a marble would fit in the barrel? Cant wait for those chrony test! I'll bet you its over 600 fps.

shot at a brick house with a small bolt that half the diameter of the barrel with no wadding and got some pretty big chips
that was at 70 psi

You should be able to take it higher. I regularly pressurise my copper launcher to 200psi (and some) with confidence. Bri the Brain says he has had copper up to 300psi without problem but didn't feel safe. (Can't say I blame him.)

Nice launcher. Good, slender design. It'd be a pity not to use it to it's full potential.

How accurate do you reckon your measurements are regarding the barrel? .4" sounds like it could be good. If the barrel were just about .1" larger in ID, you could share some of stock of 13/32" carbon steel bearings to shoot. 8) Do you have any vernier calipers or an inside micrometer lying around anywhere?

The weakest part is the barrel, wich only takes pressure for a split second, so this gun should hold 300 psi without a problem.
It looks very safe.
All small diameter, thick brass fittings.

I never felt safe using 28 mm copper as the chamber at 300 psi.
Even though it never failed on me.

I switched to steel.

if you want a good looking pilot valve you could always use a modded sprinker valve and just elbow it around out of the way, but i do know what you mean, i just finished a steel marble gun (will post when i get my camera back) and when i tried to pilot with the air gun trigger it would just plop out, but using the modded sprinkler valve im putting holes in car doors

Thats really clean and looks powerful. I really should get into copper or steel cannons. I could probably get any fittings or pipe I need because my dad owns a commercial construction company and whenever he gos to a job site he could just ask a plumber working there for whatever pipe or fittings because they throw away a lot of it anyway.
