Lock Picking

Does anyone here know how to pick a lock or at least tried. I don't mean like for breaking into something, just if you were board and had nothing else to do. Well it's actually very easy and in a few hour you might actually be able to pick a lock in a few minutes or if you practice a lot seconds. In my house so far I've been able to open the door leading to our back porch, all the other ones all go directly outside and aren't protected from weather so they're kinda corroded.

I see why you might what to learn cause it its its a neat, and useful (you never know

) and I don't think this is considered as illegal activites (rule4) so ok
you just fiddle with the little pins while aplying tension for the lock to turn using something that is fairly strong yet small

once I made cheapy lock-picking tools by grinding down a small rusty screwdriver and some nails... I used the belt on my table sander

it was geting old anyways and i didn't care if it broke and the sparks look cool, yet still after sharpening and grinding for several projects the belt still hasn't broke

I know how, I was just asking if anyone else did.
EDIT: Yeah I make mine out of wire coat hangers. All you do is flatten them to the right thickness with a hammer on a vice or another hammer and grind them down.

I find that a nail file makes for a good tension device, although i would think a better turn is torsion device.

To manipulate the pins, i like to use a small allen wrench. It's good for opening the upstairs door when I lock myself out.

I have some luggage locks that I have a small screw driver for that is bent in such a way all I have to do is stick it in and turn, and the lock pops open.

Works great, I don't even have the keys anymore

Lol! Even PCGUY replied to this thread. The coat hanger thing works really well. I just made a half diamond and a torque wrench.

I pick locks if I have to, but I'm pretty crap (In that it can take me several minutes). I understand the technique, but I can't always feel the pins properly. So usually, it's easier/quicker for me to try and find the keys.

However, there are some locks I've picked often enough that I know exactly what to do to get them open.

Practise definately helps, but I usually have other ways to waste.... I mean... use my time.

A while back, like maybe 6 months ago I was looking into this. One of the places I was looking said to use hacksaw blades for making your pics, since they are cheap, thin, and are made of just the right kind of metal.
They also said to get a decent quality lock to tear apart and practice on, starting with just 1 pin, and working up.
They went over other types of pics also. Like that different styles work well for different locks.

I have gotten busy with other stuff, so I haven't put any time into this. But, I think it would be very useful.

I'm ok at them. I've opened a few less complicated ones with an unbent paperclip. My freind tried to do it and messed up this one lock really bad.

How did he mess up a lock? I've been practicing since I posted this with small breaks to eat and stuff and I've found a few locks around my house (3) and I've been practicing and I can pick all three in less than 20 sec and I haven't memorized them.

Did it once to the lock on my old front door. Picked it with 3 paperclips, parents replaced the lock the following week. 8)

I pick a little bit i really want to buys some real picks but it is much cheaper to make your own and they probably work just as good. I make mine out of the spring steel in windsheild wiper blades (2 for a buck at family dolllar) mine tension wrench is an allen wrench grinded down.
