#1 electrolysis is a very efficient energy conversion, with some getting appr. 90% efficiency. Plus hydrogen COULD(just a guess) potentially be much more powerful than propane.
#2 The skin theory is just a theory. I would say to take the mythbusters' word as gospel would be stupid. On the other hand there are several good points for either side. On one hand, cotton burns really fast whereas the skin for the hindenburg just had the dope on it(which to my knowledge doesn't burn very fast). Now as to that jacobs ladder thing, anything will burn in a jacobs ladder. You could put concrete in a jacobs ladder and it'll burn. Also, it is rediculous to say that the hydrogen in the hindenburg did not ignite. The second that the skin burnt to expose the hydrogen to the air it would have ignited. On the other hand, the effect the hydrogen had on the blimps crash/explosion is unknown and probably will forever remain as such. Also, the mythbusters did show that the skin could create a small scale thermite reaction. It may have been larger if the mythbusters had the dope formula wrong. The main lesson behind the hindenburg is a simple one. No matter what don't fill your blimp with explosive and paint it with something that might just accelerate that.
Whoa, I just had a revelation. I wonder if the hindenburg was filled with helium would it have smothered the fire? Thermite does oxidize itself, but was there a great enough thermite concentration on the hindenburg? Too many questions, too little color on news reel footage. Anyone got a time machine
