Hey Mike,

The gun wont blow up if used safely but just say it did, that electrical tape isn't going to do sh*t.

Ever put tape around a balloon and try and pop it? Same concept, except it wouldnt be as effective, but it would probably do something in the least

It says its $11, but i found a couple bags that were on clearance for $4, most, for some reason, didnt have the actual sparker in it, but 2 of them did, so i got one, and its worked perfect ever since

Yeah, only a ballon has about what 5psi in it and isn't made of PVC pipe that shrpanels when it blows. Trust me that tape aint doing anything anytime soon if it blows. Doubt it will slow it down at all. Unless something is permantly bonded to the pipe it probably wont work. Even cricket bat tape(fibre glass tape, which is a bitch to cut) wont hold the pressure very well as the shrapnel will just cut through it.

Nice gun, might want to lengthen the wires to get them out of danger from being pulled out

A hairspray cannon made of plumbing pipe is not going to explode....

Pressure rating or not it can definitely take the measly pressure spike from hairspray.

Electrical tape isn't tough enough to do much if you're wanting it to help contain a potential burst. If you want to have a tough skin round it use reinforced tape. Gaffer tape/Duct tape or whatever else its called where you are its not going to rip very easily and is better than electrical tape.

i like your style of a handle and ignitor but for a more sure ignition make the nails a bit farther apart and try to get the wires held down and as insomniac said use some pressure rated stuff

Guys, just to clear up, people have done tests on putting duct tape / blankets / all sorts of things around pipe to contain potential shrapnel. Really thick fabric like denim and canvas helps - anything shy of that (even 50 wraps of duct tape) proves to be pretty ineffective.

I've pressurized sch40 ABS DWV parts to 125psi (remotely, for testing) and they didn't blow. I'm not saying its a good idea, and personally I wouldn't want to stand next to a DWV cannon with any more than about 60psi in it, but DWV should be FINE for combustion guns. Even propane. Mapp is questionable (as it produces a sharper pressure spike). No "chamber wrapping" needed.

ABS cell core is actually my material of choice for combustion guns; if it does fail, it will rip open cleanly without sending any shrapnel or fragments everywhere. PVC will. I'd recommend ABS DWV to anyone building a combustion gun, NSF-PW SCH40 PVC for pneumatics.

BTW, cool semi-mini, Mike4192. The glue work is a little sloppy but it looks like it works pretty well. Hope you stick around and post a few more.

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

The white electrical tape doen't help anything. Why do people think tape is the answer to all problems?
