I have finally tested a project that I have been working on for my pneumatic. I call it N.D.S. and it is exactly what it sounds like. I wanted to top a projectile with a nail, but still be able to use the projectile without recovering the nail (because it is obviously logged into an object). So it is basically a nail warhead. At 60 psi I drove a 3-1/2" nail through 3/4" plywood. I then crapped myself with joy. I went and got the projectile which had popped off of the nail after impact and did the same thing again. I know that some of you could care less. but I was just overjoyed and felt that I would share it with everyone. I would also like to thank everyone at SpudFiles for all the help, ideas, and general good natured conversations. Thanx everyone!

Pictures of your cannon are now formaly requested, hehehe. So if you have a camra, and can put up some pics of your cannon, that would be cool. I hope i was one of the one's that helped, if not, your welcome anyway. What does it do to soup cans? Hmmmm, damage pics are fun to look at also. Video's are the best.

sorry but no digital cam, maybe borrow a friends soon. i'll pic the cannon and do what i can on damage pics. here are some specs of my gun

5' sch40 3/4" barrel that I sleeved the outside with a slit peice of 3/4" sch40 for a straight barrel

modded 1" lawn genie with modded blowgun

20 oz. coke bottle with chrome tire valve and some jb weld

it isn't a nail gun, too expensive

i found that i had spinning problems as well chaos, but i found that my problem was too much power and turbulence from that. i shot nails that didn't spin, but they hit perfectly sideways which baffeled(sp) me, i think if there is so much pressure it is still being released behind the nail while the front of the nail has already exited the barrel, then the back end is actually accelerating while the front end is slowing down, spinning it sideways. im going to crown the end of my barrel and see if that helps

my system is actually like some wooden rockets ive made in this post
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6197&
i made the dowel rods much smaller and simply glued the nails on the front with hot glue, and made simple paper fins on the back

you all may also be interested to know that i found in my shed the biggest nail i have ever seen, a solid 12 inch long iron spike, penetrated 4 inches and the kick nearly knocked my over!!!!!! if i manage pics that will be the first one i post

yer soz i was talking to that 17000kpa dude about that nail gun.

yer ok well you have the same size barrel as my marble gun i think mine is 3/4 anyways i have found that if you want straight flying ammo nails, darts ect you need to stabilize it with either fins or a tail of a sort that isnt heavier than the front of it that is why nails spin, the front is about the same weight of the tail or lighter. i had an idea for 1/4" barrels and that is to put a cigarette filter on the tail of the dart.i think it was a-98's post on making darts they work very well i suggest you have a look at them HERE
EDIT MY BAD YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN THERE!! im half asleep 2day soz.

anyways apart from that
nice ideas on your ammo based on those wooden rockets. and man a 12"spike! i have thought about using welding electrodes but they bend pretty easy. so ill just stick with my shortened arrow bolts with the fins on it the fly dead straight.

Sounds cool, I usually just tape newspaper to the back of nails to make darts.
