Ah, well that is real weird, I guess it turns out that ABS doesn't really tear!
It must have been somehow weakened/damaged however, since plenty of people use ABS just fine all of the time.

Yes, I am the guy that owns & operates SpudFiles (along with our extremely helpful moderators).

I've seen pics of ABS shatter into pieces before, but that was a propane and oxygen injected shot, never would have expected it with just propane. Was it cold outside when you were shooting?
The extent of the failure is still far less than what a similar failure in PVC would have done. Notice that the cracks were able to stop themselves from propagating and let the gun remain mostly intact. You would never see that on PVC.
I would never use a cell core gun, but if I was held at gunpoint to fire either a cell core PVC gun or a cell core ABS, I would fire the ABS.
Thanks for the pics and glad you are OK

Yup - in that case, my BS-meter seems to be fine.
Given this incident, perhaps we need to reconsider construction materials. Inevitably, this will come up in the next ABS vs PVC debate.

Novacastrian: How about use whatever the heck you can get your hands on?
frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.

Is/was the pipe old? aged? left in the sun? exposed to ozone? and, yes, was it cold out? have you ever used anything other than propane in it, like a solvent based fuel?
