I dont say anything to them? If they ask i tell em my down pipe got wreaked during the last storm or my uncle backed his truck into it and im getting the better pipe so it dosent happen as offtern? yeh i was recently buying parts for one aswell. because i wanted the parts i didn't say *exactly* what i was building. in one store i knew id be better off just saying ' a pressure system thing' and leaving it at that.
in another the bloke was a bit younger and i recon i could have told him but still NEEDED the pipe so i said its to be a 'physics experiment to test things to do with pressure differences' which is right because im making a piston valve haha. but just not an 'official school experiment' 8)
got the parts tho. but i made up my reason for buying before i got to the store just in case because i knew if i was on the spot it might not have been good.
im fairly sure that in this part of australia (victoria) they are illegal and i will keep thinking that because its better than thinking they are legal just because i want them to be. i live out on a farm tho so i wont get caught and even better there are no police in the town. so i drive all the time and ride my dirtbike all over the place and when a few *$&##*@# residents complain about the 'noise' im home or gone before the cops have a chance to get here from the nearest cop shop 30 minutes away.

Na well in NZ you cant sue people, we have a little thing called ACC (look it up if you want to know more). I also think as far as the court of law goes, that someone trying to get money off a plumbing store that sold them parts for a weapon, wont be very favorable to the person that hurt themselves (well at least in NZ it wont be).

Spud guns aren't hurting anyone, they have potential to hurt people but that is not their main purpose, they are built for fun, and they are illegal. Guns usually arent hurting anyone (which is why you need a firearms license), they have potential to hurt people, they are built for using as a tool and fun but they are still legal (if you have a license).

i am sure that everyone sensible here on files and many many spudders out there completely understands and often shares ur situation. but unfortunately our society does not only cater for people like us. there are others out there, a small fraction that do not appreciate the safety precautions and intentions of our hobby of spudding. guns, first and foremost are weapons, designed to inflict injury. even though our primary intention for our spudguns is too enjoy the harmless fun of building and firing, there will be other ret@rds in our community that would use these creations for their own malicious deeds. our government's responsibility is to take into consideration of the potential risk these idiots pose to our society.
firearms are indeed legal because they are much more easily policed. if u wish to purchase a firearm, u must go though a strenuous process in obtaining it. spudguns in contrast are readily obtainable and have no official way in checking for legal registration. the argument here is that someone could hold up a KwikiMart with a home made rifle because he/she could build it and there would be no way of tracing the "weapon" back to them... i know a bit far fetched but it could happen eh?
however in saying this, i do also believe that the laws (in aus and anywhere else that is similar) are indeed too strict. the laws have not accounted for our sensible and responsible use of these cannons, instead they have gone the easy route and simply ban them. there needs to be a serious reconsideration in the appropriate laws to some extent legalize our humble hobby...

To get parts I just go to the local hardware store and I have been there enough times they know I am getting parts for one of my high pressure prodjects and they are glad to help out. I guess it is mostly the curiosity, cause I never give out too much information.
