Ok, I went pipe scouting...
Would I be better off using some sections of steal pipe or a 4" pvc pipe??
also the biggest ball valve I could find was a 1" metal one. (I'm not doing sprinkler thing)

the metal can hold higher pressures. get the 1 inch metl ball valve.
go with the metrial you cna find fittings for easiest.

i would go with pvc to start, unless you are a good weldor, then id go with steel. i started with pvc and can say its very easy to work with compared to steel.

i would have to dis agree with you, in my area, you can build a metal one out of 5 pieces without welding. I got my 9 year old cousin to build on out of metal, without my help, we have pipe with threading on both ends...so you just screw on an end cap on one end ,reducer on the other, screw the barrel into the ball valve, and screw both into the reducer, drill a hole in the end cap and put in a fill valve, easy as pie (yummmmm pie) depends what kind of pipe you can get thou.rednecktatertosser wrote:its very easy to work with compared to steel.
trying to decide on a new project, probably something small.

well yeah if you can find threaded pipe then it would be better due to the fact that steel can hold higher pressures. but its to hard to get threaded pipe around here thats longer than 6 in. so thats why i use pvc except when i have the time to actually do a quality welding job

Or if you have the tool to put threads on blank steel pipe, and thats pretty damn simple to do. So lets not jump tp conclusions on how easy each material is.

Point taken, but yea I kinda agree with you, PVC is pretty simple to assemble and use. And it is much lighter and cleaner looking too.
