Hey, just a quick question.
I've been doing my research on cannons (specifically hybrids) and have wondered if it would be save to use an acetylene/oxygen mixture. But before you call be a stupid retard that is going to blow himself up, what if the cannon was only a meter long and 100% steel construction?
Just thought I'd do some looking into.

well first have you made a combustion or phnematic yet if not study them first.
this has been discussed on many threads, and i guess........... it would be............. VERY FREAKIN DANGEROUS!!! oxyaceteline is used to cut through steel and is not safe for a normal steel gun dont do this but i suppose that if you had a very thick titanium or steel gun it might hold up, but it would not be worth chancin and would be way out of anyone heres price range
Acetylene is very fast-burning. I's also lighter than "conventional" fuels, so it expands faster. Add pure O2 to that and you have an explosive device on your hands. Unless that steel pipe is more than 1/2'' thick, I wouldn't try it. You could make a steel hybrid that uses a high pressure mix (like 4x to 6x), or use propane and O2. Should be a little safer.

Hmm...
I calculate the energy of C2H2 (acetalene) being burnt at 1,235,000J/mole with a molecular mass of the reactents of 106amu. The density of C2H2 is 1g/L, and the density of air is 1.4g/L... thus the energy/L of a C2H2/O2 mix is 15,100J.
I calculate the energy of C3H8 (propane) being burnt at 2,356,000J/mole with a molecular mass of the reactents of 204amu. The density of C3H8 is 1.8g/L, and the density of air is 1.4g/L... thus the energy/L of a C3H8/O2 mix is 17,200J.
That is, propane will release more energy/L than acetalene... why do you want to use the annoying, dangerous, and shattering acetalene?
(note that this is not inconsistant with C2H2 burning hotter; the density of the C2H2/O2 mix is lower, and CO2 has a significantly lower specific heat than gaseous H2O)

True. Maybe propane would be the best bet.hy do you want to use the annoying, dangerous, and shattering acetalene?
I have made many combustion and pneumatic guns. Do you guys have any great links for studying the specifics of a hybrid? I have been to many sites and all they describe is how "sweet" they are. Bah that doesn't help me much.well first have you made a combustion or phnematic yet if not study them first.
Thanks alot,
Justin

that was oxyacetalene in action with everyday plastic pipes
so r u suicidal or not?
